Tis’ the season, and all the rest. And while you’re jumping between holiday parties and time with the family, we have some tips to keep you styling (and sane) this Christmas.
You’re going to need a terrible Christmas sweater, of course; a killer winter plaid coat for upscale events; a cocktail recipe for impressing guests; some god-awful dad jokes; and (who could forget?) a pair of BOMBEROS loafers to get you from Christmas to New Year’s and beyond.
Luckily, I’ve got you covered with some of my favorite holiday recommendations and the best, most festive, styles from BOMBEROS.
The Ugly Christmas Sweater
First up, the sweaters. They’re essential for that annual Ugly Sweater Party (don’t lie, you’ve received at least one invitation). They’re worthy gifts for the family members who were somehow forgotten on your original Christmas List. And, never forget, the ugliest sweaters are usually the comfiest, best to throw on when the night is long and you’ve eaten too much and the scotch just keeps coming.
Try Tipsy Elves for something truly outrageous or, more to the point, Ugly Christmas Sweaters, will do the trick.
The Winter Plaid Coat
The coat is a little tricker.
If you’re looking to make a statement, go for a tartan wool blend blazer in red and green – wide black lapels really set the pattern off. Partner this with a white shirt, festive cufflinks, black pants, and BOMBEROS shoes. This, from J Crew, is stylish enough to be acceptable but bold enough to be the life of the party.
For the colder climes, an overcoat like this one from Paul Smith might be more suitable. An Italian-made double-breasted wool overcoat (in red houndstooth check) is just the ticket. The classic style undercuts the excessive color. And the look is completed perfectly with a black turtleneck and black suit pants or jeans.
Cocktails for the Season
Now for the cocktails.
You can’t look past eggnog – the family favourite. Best for cold nights by the fire, following a long dinner, and served with dessert.
This recipe is the “Ultimate Eggnog Recipe” from Liquor.com and I can attest, it lives up to its name.

If you’re looking to impress friends at cocktail hour, and eggnog just won’t cut it, opt for an Old Fashioned with a little bit of spice. This recipe from Salted Plains is my holiday go-to.
Dad jokes to liven up the party
Dad jokes. These are like stocking-fillers but for awkward silences. Use them sparingly but with confidence. They’re sure to break the ice and get a laugh, and really – who doesn’t love a good dad joke?

And finally, the shoes
